    Help us tell Our Story

    StoryCorps

In September 2022, Larry Barttelbort, volunteer coordinator, and Rosalind Schliske, managing editor, both with the Wyoming National Guard history project, recorded an interview explaining the origins and goals of the Telling Our Story project. The audio interview was conducted as part of the Military Voices Initiative for StoryCorps. Since 2003, StoryCorps has recorded more than half a million people, preserving them in the StoryCorps Archive, housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The archive comprises one of the first and the largest born-digital collections of human voices, featuring tens of thousands of conversations recorded across the United States and around the world.

  • Launch Party

On November 10, 2022, fundraising for the Wyoming Guard history project was launched at a party at the World Headquarters in Cheyenne of Blue FCU, the project’s Summit Peak Business Partner. Leading the festivities were the fundraising co-chairs, Lt. Gen. (ret.) Ed Wright, former adjutant general, and Col. (ret.) Rita Meyer, former state auditor. The Wyoming National Guard Historical Society, a nonprofit 501(3)(c) organization, accepted the contributions.

  • Your Story

Money isn’t all the project needs. To ensure the history is as complete as possible, memorabilia connected to the Wyoming National Guard in any form—diaries, memories, photos, letters, emails, etc.—will help the project “Tell Our Story.“ Look in your attic, basement or garage for those items. They can be returned to donors after they are photographed and recorded.
